Hashir International is approved as an independent research institute

Hashir International has been successfully registered as an independent, UK based research institute. Having demonstrated dedication and scientific expertise throughout years of researching misophonia, tinnitus and hyperacusis, the institute has been approved by the UK government to gain this status.

Hashir International is a research institute and treatment centre committed to improving the diagnostic process and rehabilitation programs for patients experiencing misophonia, tinnitus and hyperacusis. They have conducted multidisciplinary research in such areas for over ten years, and from 26 June 2023, the company became recognised as an independent, UK based research institute.

The UK government grant this form of approval to organisations which are carrying out research at the highest level or to professional bodies of the highest standing. Hashir International has successfully demonstrated their position among these leading bodies and proven there is a need for an independent research institute dedicated to studies on misophonia, tinnitus and hyperacusis. The approval is also a demonstration that the institute follows the appropriate regulations and governance structure to sponsor and conduct their research.  Dr Hashir Aazh, the director of the institute, explained why this recognition is significant:

“Being an independent research institute means we are able to choose topics and studies that we feel are relevant and important. We are not influenced by the criteria of funding partners, instead we have freedom in terms of what we choose to study. The clinicians at our institute can identify day-to-day problems directly from their patients, and feed this back to our researchers to focus on.”

Researchers at Hashir International study a range of topics related to audiology, psychology, pharmacology, genetics, andneuroscience. Some of the topics they are currently leading research into include social cognition and brain activities in misophonia, effect of sleep disturbances on tinnitus, cognition, mood and hyperacusis, and machine learning and AI for differential diagnosis of misophonia and hyperacusis. Dr Aazh clarified how the institute connects the research they conduct, to the treatment they provide:

“There is a close connection between our researchers and our clinician team, so the researchers understand the day-to-day challenges that clinicians face

while providing therapy and know the problems that are faced by patientsthemselves. This connection can improve clinical procedures, assessment procedures and treatment procedures, or the methods of providing treatments.“

With the approval successful, Hashir International will continue to conduct multidisciplinary experimental and clinical studies to better understand, assess, treat, and prevent misophonia, tinnitus and hyperacusis.
