The Do’s and Don’ts for Tinnitus Patients

Our guest speaker for this session is Professor Annick Gilles, head of the TINTRA (Tinnitus Treatment & Research Centre Antwerp) clinic for tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia since 2018, and head of the Audiology Department at the University Hospital of Antwerp (UZA) since 2020.

Professor Gilles will present “Can I … ? The Do’s and Don’ts for Tinnitus Patients”. In her talk, she will address common questions such as:

  • Can I take a plane with my tinnitus?
  • Should I avoid caffeine?
  • Should I protect my hearing more now that I have tinnitus?
  • Can I engage in intensive sports?

Many tinnitus patients experience their tinnitus becoming more “reactive” in response to certain situations, activities, or foods. In this talk, Professor Gilles will explain why tinnitus may react in specific ways, how these reactions are perceived, and why constantly trying to avoid these changes might actually lead to more fluctuations.

There will be an opportunity to ask Professor Gilles questions, so join the live session to benefit from her expert insights. This talk aims to empower individuals with knowledge and practical strategies to take control of their tinnitus journey.

If you are undergoing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or planning to start, this talk is especially relevant for you!
