Hyperacusis & Misophonia in Children with Auditory Processing Disorders (APD)

June 2024

Research on Hyperacusis & Misophonia in Children with Auditory Processing Disorders (APD) won award at the British Society of Audiology conference 17-18 June 2024, Birmingham, UK.

A study on Hyperacusis & Misophonia in Children with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) was presented by Dr Sabarinath Vijayakumar and Dr Ansar Ahmmed from Fulwood Audiology Clinic, Preston, UK at the BSA Scientific Meeting which took place at the BCEC, Birmingham on Monday 17th & Tuesday 18th June 2024. They reported that most children with misophonia have hyperacusis but not all with hyperacusis have misophonia. They concluded that the high prevalence of misophonia and certain emotional responses in females compared to hyperacusis support the view of misophonia as a separate mental health condition.

They won the best poster award.
