Take part: Misophonia Clinical Trial at the University of Sussex

 

We’d like to invite you to take part in our misophonia clinical trial (subject to the eligibility below) to test a non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation device for improving misophonia symptoms. To be eligible for the trial you need to be:

  • 18-40 years old
  • Right-handed
  • Fluent English speaker
  • Experience moderate to severe misophonia
  • Are not actively receiving treatment for misophonia and will not be for the duration of the trial
  • Able to have an MRI
  • No history of brain injury or seizures
  • No history or family history of heart problems
  • Are not pregnant or trying
  • Normal or corrected to normal vision
  • Normal hearing (aside from hyperacusis, tinnitus or misophonia)
  • Able to travel to the University of Sussex for the two in-person sessions (of 3-4 hours each) which we would arrange to take place Monday-Friday within hours 8.30am-6pm

You would receive a £100 payment for completing the full trial (if eligible) which involves:

  • 4-hour in-person at the University of Sussex testing session with an MRI scan, physiology and audiology tests, and device set-up
  • A 4-week intervention at home using a non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation device for 30 mins twice a day throughout
  • A 3-hour in-person at the University of Sussex testing session again doing an MRI scan, physiology and audiology tests
  • A final questionnaire after another 4-weeks completed at home
