The 2025 World Tinnitus Congress and XIV International Tinnitus Seminar in Warsaw marked a turning point in tinnitus and hyperacusis care. Dr Hashir Aazh’s Journal of Hearing Science paper highlights advances in CBT, neurophysiology, pharmacology, and digital care, emphasising stratified, multimodal, and personalised approaches. The 2027 Congress will be hosted in London.
Toward Stratified and Multimodal Tinnitus Care: Insights from the 2025 World Tinnitus Congress
The 2025 World Tinnitus Congress (WTC) and XIV International Tinnitus Seminar (ITS), held in Warsaw, Poland, brought together leading researchers, clinicians, and innovators to explore the evolving landscape of tinnitus and hyperacusis care.
Dr Hashir Aazh, founder of the Hashir International Institute, authored a new hypothesis paper titled “Key Insights from the III World Tinnitus Congress and XIV International Tinnitus Seminar: Toward Stratified and Multimodal Tinnitus Care”, published in the Journal of Hearing Science (Vol. 15 No. 2). The paper summarises the scientific highlights and future directions emerging from this landmark event.
Major themes at the Congress included progress in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), neurophysiological mechanisms, somatosensory modulation, pharmacological advances, and digital health innovation. Researchers presented validated paediatric assessment tools, evidence supporting stratified pharmacotherapy, and pioneering precision surgery techniques for pulsatile tinnitus.
The growing influence of tele-audiology and digital self-help platforms underscored a clear shift toward decentralised and personalised models of tinnitus care. Presentations emphasised the importance of biomarker-guided clinical trials, patient stratification frameworks, and wider access to evidence-based psychological therapies such as audiologist-delivered CBT.
Reflecting on the conference, Dr Aazh noted:
“The Warsaw meeting marked a transition point for tinnitus research and clinical practice. We are witnessing a global movement toward integrating neurophysiology, psychology, and digital care into one coherent, personalised framework.”
Looking ahead, it was announced that, following a competitive bidding process, the IV World Tinnitus Congress and XV International Tinnitus Seminar will be held in London in 2027, hosted by the Hashir International Institute. This milestone event reflects the growing momentum and international collaboration driving progress in tinnitus research and clinical care worldwide.
