Research Participants Wanted: Misophonia, Emotional Experiences, and Close Relationships

The Hashir International Institute is pleased to support the recruitment of participants for an independent research study led by Jane Clinger, Doctoral Candidate in Clinical Psychology at Long Island University, Brooklyn.

The study aims to improve our understanding of how early relational experiences and emotion regulation are associated with misophonia symptoms in adulthood. The findings may contribute to a better understanding of the emotional and interpersonal aspects of misophonia.

Who can take part?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Are fluent in English
  • Experience misophonia symptoms related to specific sounds
  • Do not have another diagnosed auditory or neurological condition (such as hyperacusis, hearing loss, or tinnitus) that better explains your sound sensitivity

What does participation involve?

Participation involves completing a one-time online questionnaire that takes approximately 30 minutes. The survey includes questions about:

  • Sound sensitivity
  • Emotional experiences
  • Early family relationships
  • Close interpersonal relationships

At the end of the survey, participants may also choose to express interest in an optional 45-minute follow-up interview, conducted confidentially via secure video call or telephone.

Participation is entirely voluntary. All responses are confidential, and no identifying information will be linked to survey responses.

As a token of appreciation, participants may enter a raffle to win a $50 Amazon gift card after completing the study.
